Holy shit I cannot wait for the new Dying Fetus to drop. Do yourself a favour and head on over to their Myspace page and check out the title track "Desend into Depravity." I've been playing air guitar to this for days. Cannot wait! (Drops September 15th). John Gallagher has the most gnarliest vocals I've heard in a long time - well, outside of this band I just reviewed for Hellbound, Wodensthrone, this British pagan metal band. I believe that I wrote that the vocalist sounded like he was puking hot gravel, or something like that.
I like Dying Fetus partly out of fasination and partly because outside of the rapid-fire shredding, they have some serious, head-banging grooves that are totally infectous. Not something that you can listen to everyday, but worth a listen. Funny, I just watched some footage of the band in the studio and Gallagher seems like this regular, friendly guy, but listen to him in action, and you would think he is seriously demented.
Also, the new Baroness is getting rave reviews. The Blue Record is out on October 13th. Dunno if I'm compelled quite yet to pick it up but from what I've heard - a lot of people I know have been raving about it -it's worth a definite listen.
Ever since seeing Kylesa open for Mastodon in May, I've been a fan - well, I was a fan before that, but I was really compelled to take them seriously. I've been spinning Static Tensions on a daily basis, as well as Suffocation's Blood Oath. They have an instumental of "Pray for Forgiveness" as a bonus track which totally blew my mind - I like vocalist Frank Mullen, but man, when you hear this, you'll be like, 'whoa' ( okay, enough Valley Girl speak).
