    A Girl Like Me

Thanks Carmen! Please, please, please head over to Cosmogirl.com this weekend to view and vote for the fabulous film short by Kiki Davis which is part of a film contest. The winner will take home $10,000. Here's a synopsis about the film:

"The issues my friends and I face inspired me to create this documentary. Through my interviews, it became extremely apparent how European beauty standards still maintain a dominant role in our society. Society imposes standards that affect us all no matter what your sex or race is. I hope the film helps girls everywhere understand that you can’t allow other people to define who you are. You have to define and celebrate yourself. You have to love the skin you're in!"

    – Kiri Davis

Its great to see a young sista doing fabulous things.

I've been following the cotroversy surrounding this contest with great interest. I'm unsure if I fully believe Cosmogirl's claims about shutting down the voting due to hackers...but I want to. When I voted for Kiri Davis she was well behind (you had JUST sent out the call for us to vote) but she quickly gained the lead. It is a bit suspect that after the only Black submission overtakes the lead, the contest voting is closed. I certianly hope she still prevails!
